Net-Safe Latvia project has set up a National Youth Panel and the first meeting was held on May 7, 2009. Members of the Youth Panel represent all regions of Latvia. Thirteen 11-17 years old children and young people are part of the panel.

The following topics were covered in the first discussion: a) Behaviour in social networks, b) Usage of mobile phones, c) Internet safety in school curriculum, d) best channels of reaching youth and children.

It is planned that the Youth Panel will meet 3 times per year, the next meeting is set at the beginning of September.

Tasks of the Youth Panel:

  • consult and inform Net-Safe Latvia project about latest tendencies on the Internet and with modern technologies, also share information about their positive and negative experience on the Internet
  • evaluate existing project materials that are provided for children and youth and give advices what kind of materials are more relevant for them
  • suggest activities, how to increase awareness about e-safety issues
  • involve their peers in the Internet safety activities

The Youth Panel will help:

  • to educate children and youth  about safety on the internet more effectively
  • to organize events for their peers
  • to develop new materials;
  • to prepare information for project web page section "Children and Youth"
  • to increase quality of project researches
  • to create "Interneta safety" group on the social networking sites
